VOLUNTEER WITH EDUCATION SERVICES
- English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teacher (location varies)
Volunteer teachers will teach one English class a week. Classes are held at 10 different sites throughout northern Virginia. The class schedules vary according to the site, but are usually held in the evenings or weekends, with one weekday morning site. Although many classes are held twice a week, volunteers teach only once a week, sharing the same group of students.Teachers do not need foreign language proficiency or previous teaching experience. Hogar Immigrant Services volunteers attend a one hour orientation and six hour training, and are given a teacher's toolbox of games, activities and resources, and an easy to follow teacher's guide.
- Site Coordinator in Alexandria
Site Coordinators will take a leadership role by managing and administering one of our ESL class sites. Duties include supporting the students through ongoing communication and encouragement, marketing the program in the neighborhood surrounding the site, registering students for class, and providing the teachers with assistance when needed.back to top
