Volunteer Opportunites

Volunteers play a critical role at Hogar.  With more than 300 volunteers across the various departments and sites, volunteers outnumber Hogar employees 20 to 1.  We simply could not serve thousands of immigrants and their families each year were it not for the generosity and dedication of our volunteers.

They teach English, prepare brown-bag lunches for the homeless, complete client intakes, prepare applicants for the US citizenship interview and exam, and often provide a compassionate ear for our clients and students.

Teachers do not need foreign language proficiency or previous teaching experience. Hogar Immigrant Services volunteers attend a one hour orientation and six hour training, and are given a teacher's toolbox of games, activities and resources, and an easy to follow teacher's guide.back to top
